What is PRP?
PRP refers to platelet-rich plasma. PRP is a naturally derived serum rich in growth factors pulled from your own blood sample. It can be used as a regenerative cosmetic treatment to stimulate cellular regrowth – it can also be paired with microneedling for even better results. PRP is totally natural and requires no harsh ingredients or incisions, meaning it’s a great option for patients who might be prone to allergic reaction. With a customized package of treatments, you can enjoy brighter, more youthful skin with a reduction in many different skin concerns.
What Can PRP Treat?
- Sagging
- Skin laxity
- Acne scars
- Uneven complexion
- Fine lines and aging
- Texture and dryness
PRP is used for hair restoration, and also in medical treatments for sports injuries. Since PRP uses your own blood sample, it’s important to be in good health. Your board-certified dermatologist can make sure you’re healthy enough for PRP treatments.
- Hepatitis C
- Cardiovascular disease or dependency on blood-thinning medications
- Blood cancer
- Skin cancer
- HIV or AIDS
What Happens During Treatment?
To begin your PRP treatment, a small blood sample will be taken. The sample is placed in a centrifuge which spins the blood down into its plasma and concentrated growth factors. The plasma can then be microneedled or injected into the treatment area for better absorption in the skin. Once complete, the growth factors begin to boost cellular activity and regenerate new, healthy skin.

PRP Recovery and Results
After your PRP treatment, you should make sure to avoid sweating, exercising, or spending time in hot environments like a hot tub or steamy shower for the first 24-48 hours. Your skincare specialist will provide detailed instructions on how to care for your skin and which products to avoid. Make sure to keep your skin covered with SPF 30+ since it will be especially susceptible to sun damage and hyperpigmentation.
It can take about three to six months for results to begin emerging after PRP treatment. Your skincare specialist will help you create a customized package of treatments based on your goals, and your subsequent treatments should be performed about three weeks apart. After you complete your initial package of treatments, you can maintain your results with yearly or bi-yearly treatments as needed.
